Czech model jailed in Pakistan for drug-smuggling may be released next week

Czech model Tereza Hlůšková, who was acquitted of drug trafficking charges after serving close to four years in a Pakistani jail, may be released sometime next week, the Czech Foreign Ministry said on Friday. According to the ministry, her release has been delayed by the country’s overburdened courts.  Hlušková’s lawyer Saif ul Malook told the Czech Foreign Ministry that the paperwork for her release could take some time.

Hlušková was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison in 2018 for trying to smuggle nine kilograms of heroin out of the country. She pleaded innocent saying someone must have planted the drugs in her suitcase. Earlier this month the Lahore Court of Appeal ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt, and ordered that she be released from prison.
