Czech-Lithuanian security talks in Prague
Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský on Monday met for talks with his Lithuanian counterpart Kestutis Budrys in Prague. They discussed the global security situation, higher defence spending, continued support for Ukraine and the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague, among others.
Lipavský said the Czech Republic and Lithuania have excellent relations based on common values and long-standing cooperation. Lithuania plays a key role in NATO's eastern flank, Lipavský said, adding that he considers it right that Czech soldiers are part of the NATO forward presence in the country.
The two sides agreed on the need for continued support for Ukraine and Minister Budrys praised the Czech munitions initiative to which Lithuania is contributing. The ministers also expressed support for another sanctions package against Russia and discussed the Czech proposal to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats in the Schengen area.
