Czech leaders express condolences after deadly shooting in Kraków
Czech President Petr Pavel and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš have expressed their condolences to Poland following a shooting in central Kraków on Saturday that left six people dead and 15 injured. Pavel sent a message to his Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki, saying the tragedy was felt particularly strongly in Czechia because of the country's close ties with Kraków.
Babiš said he was thinking of the victims and their families and wished those injured a speedy recovery. The Czech Foreign Ministry and Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar also expressed their support for Poland, as did opposition Civic Democrat leader Martin Kupka.
Czech authorities have no information that any Czech citizens were among the victims. The suspected gunman, a Polish citizen, was shot by police and arrested. Poland will observe national mourning on Sunday and Monday.
