Czech gov’t debt up 630 billion year on year, mainly due to pandemic

The nominal debt of government institutions rose by 630.3 billion crowns year on year to 2.5191 trillion crowns in the first quarter of 2021. The debt ratio increased in annual terms 32.4 percent to 44.1 percent of GDP, Czech Statistical Office data show.

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, the Czech government’s debt rose by 366.1 billion crowns and the debt ratio by 6.3 percentage points. The results continue to reflect consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, statisticians said.
