Czech government to discuss long-term residency rules for Ukrainian refugees

At Wednesday's cabinet meeting, the Czech government will consider new conditions for Ukrainian refugees seeking special long-term residency. The proposal requires applicants to have lived in Czechia under temporary protection for at least two years, have earned CZK 440,000 in the past year, and not received humanitarian aid since July 2023. NGOs and the ombudsman’s office have criticized the proposal as too restrictive. Ministers will also discuss classifying manganese deposits near Chvaletice as strategically important and may reject Karlovy Vary Region's proposal to establish a new university.
