Czech ex-soldier sentenced to eight years for looting in Ukraine

Former Czech soldier Filip Siman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for looting during military operations in Ukraine. The Prague High Court increased his original sentence by one year, also convicting him of serving in foreign armed forces. The court emphasized the severity of his actions, stating he exploited the war for personal gain, calling stolen items "war booty." Siman joined Ukrainian volunteers in 2022, where he looted valuables, including jewelry and gold bars, in Irpin and Bucha. Evidence included witness testimonies and his own videos. He has been in custody since returning to Czechia.
