Czech divers document wartime wreck of Italian ship off Albanian coast

A team of Czech divers and historians has successfully documented the wreck of the Italian transport ship Firenze, sunk by a Greek submarine during World War II. The expedition, led by the Czech Diving Team in cooperation with Albanian Diving Federation, is the first foreign mission to explore the site. The Firenze, also known in Italian sources as Piroscafo Roma, lies on the Adriatic seabed near Albania. Before the war, the ship helped evacuate Czechoslovak legionnaires from Vladivostok to Naples. It was sunk in December 1940 while transporting Italian troops to the Balkans.
