Czech company Energo-Pro will buy major Brazilian hydropower plant for CZK 6.3 billion

The Czech energy group Energo-Pro, owned by billionaire Jaromír Tesař, will purchase the Baixo Iguaçu hydropower plant in Brazil for over 250 million euros (CZK 6.3 billion). With a capacity of 350 megawatts, it will become the group’s largest energy source and make Energo-Pro the biggest Czech investor in South America. The company signed a deal with Brazilian firm Copel and expects regulatory approval this summer. Energo-Pro currently operates over 50 hydropower plants in five countries and continues to expand in Latin America, including building a new plant in Colombia.
