Czech climber dies in fall on Austrian peak

A 21-year-old Czech climber died after falling on Grosses Wiesbachhorn in Austria’s High Tauern mountains, APA reported, citing the Kaprun mountain rescue service.

Rescuers said he apparently slipped while crossing a snowfield near Unterer Fochezkopf at an altitude of about 3,000 metres. His climbing partner was unharmed and alerted rescuers after descending to a nearby mountain hut.

The search operation involved around 14 rescuers, and the body was recovered by helicopter. Grosses Wiesbachhorn stands 3,564 metres high.
