Czech ambassador represents country at EU environment meeting in Brussels

Czechia was represented at today’s meeting of EU environment ministers in Brussels by its ambassador to the EU, Štěpán Černý, not by Slovak Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba, as previously announced.

Official records from the EU Council and live footage from the meeting show Taraba speaking only on behalf of Slovakia, while Ambassador Černý represented the Czech side.

According to the Czech News Agency, ministers were not voting on any issues, so formal representation was not required. Diplomatic sources say Černý coordinated with Taraba ahead of the meeting.

One of the main topics discussed was the ETS2 emissions trading system, where Czechia supported a proposal put forward by Slovakia.
