Covid 19: Gov’t to discuss partial lifting of restrictions on cultural events

The government is due to discuss conditions for lifting anti-pandemic measures to allow cultural events to take place again. On Wednesday, Minister of Culture Lubomír Zaorálek (Social Democrats) met representatives from various groups, and suggested that theatre performances and concerts could be held as of 17 May.

Under consideration is limiting capacity to 10 percent or so, but at most 500 spectators, all of whom must present a negative Covid-19 antigen test. Thus far, Zaorálek and Health Minister Petr Arenberger (independent) have disagreed on what conditions should be for a resumption of cultural activities. Arenberger has envisaged requiring the more expensive PCR tests. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is also weighing in on the matter from the perspective of entrepreneurs in the culture sector.
