Court describes Stačilo! and SPD candidate lists as an evasion of the law

The actions of Stačilo! and SPD, along with the parties running with them, constitute an evasion of the law, the South Bohemian Regional Court stated in its rulings on their registration for the parliamentary elections. According to the court, Stačilo! and SPD, as a de facto coalition, did not label their candidate list as a coalition one, which creates unequal conditions in the elections.

However, the České Budějovice court, like other regional courts, rejected motions to annul the candidate lists in order to avoid a drastic intervention in the elections. This follows from the judgments published on the judiciary’s website. Other regional courts often argued that it is up to the group itself to declare whether it is a coalition. The Plzeň Regional Court stated in general terms that possible circumvention of the law in the form of an undeclared coalition is a very serious problem with the potential to undermine free elections.
