On August 29th, 1944, an international uprising against Hitler's Nazi Germany took place on Slovakian soil. Over 60,000 Slovak troops, with the help of 8,000 foreign soldiers and 7,000 partisans fought against a common enemy in what became known as the Slovak National Uprising. To mark the upcoming anniversary, a three-day commemorative conference opened in Prague on Tuesday. The conference was attended by veterans of the Uprising, historians and military representatives of several European countries. Radio Prague's Peter Smith attended the opening.
