Closing arguments begin in major international drug case in Liberec

Closing arguments begin today in Liberec in a major international drug smuggling case, with hearings scheduled through Wednesday. Prosecutors allege over a ton of cocaine and 3.5 tons of hashish passed through a Liberec-based operation linked to a global criminal network. Eight of the 12 defendants deny knowing involvement, while three others have already been sentenced after admitting guilt. One defendant, Vilém Kováč, identified as a key figure, remains at large. The Liberec warehouse reportedly served as a drug hub for shipments from South America and the Middle East, distributing drugs across Europe. Previous sentences include nine years for Michal Černý and 7.5 years for courier Jan Chalupa. Closing arguments continue for those denying their role.
