Brno mayor ready to resign over white power photo

The mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková of the Civic Democrats, says she is ready to resign from the post in connection with a photograph of her and a white powder reminiscent of cocaine. The picture began circulating on social media at the weekend.

Initially Ms. Vaňková said that it was a fake image but on Monday evening she conceded in an interview with TV Nova that it could be real. She told the station that if her colleagues at Brno City Hall believed she should quit she would do so.

The Civic Democrats' deputy mayor of Brno, Robert Kerndl, is also captured in the photograph.
