Zeman turns down 11 requests from Czechs wishing to fight for Ukraine

President Miloš Zeman on Tuesday turned down requests from 11 Czech citizens to join the armed forces of Ukraine, a spokesperson for the head of state said. Mr. Zeman rejected the applications on the recommendation of the Czech Ministry of Defence.

The president recently gave his approval to 103 Czechs seeking to fight for Ukraine against Russia.

Joining the army of another state without such an exemption is a crime under Czech law.
