Woman, 84, second person to die in Czechia with whooping cough in 2024

An 84-year-old woman in the Chrudim area, East Bohemia, has died with whooping cough, becoming the second person to do so in Czechia this year. The woman had been hospitalised with double pneumonia and other problems from March 8 and died on March 14.

Health officials said on Monday that over 1,100 new cases of whooping cough had been recorded in the last week.

This brings the total number of registered cases of the respiratory disease to more than 4,200 this year.
