Vote on salary increases for politicians and judges will be held on Friday

The Chamber of Deputies will reconvene on Friday to address the proposed salary increases for top politicians and judges. The issue was not voted on during Wednesday's session. Today was primarily spent listening to speeches from representatives of the opposition parties ANO and Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD), who oppose the seven percent salary hike for politicians and judges. The governing coalition supports the proposal, arguing that salary increases are necessary following last year's ruling by the Constitutional Court.

Both the SPD and ANO movements advocate for freezing politicians' salaries until the end of 2029. In the interim, they intend to develop a new system for determining politicians' pay.

However, the governing coalition argues that such a system already exists. Politicians' salaries are currently linked to the average gross wage in the national economy, calculated two years in advance. As a result, salaries either increase or remain unchanged.
