Václav Havel's ideas remain relevant, Parliament speakers agree
The legacy of former Czech President Václav Havel is still valid today, agreed Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Markéta Pekarová Adamová and Senate President Miloš Vystrčil. Both honored his memory at the Havel family tomb in Prague's Vinohrady Cemetery on the 13th anniversary of his passing. Havel, the first Czech president, passed away at his cottage in Hrádeček on December 18, 2011, at the age of 75.
Pekarová Adamová described Havel as a significant source of inspiration, emphasizing that his ideas remain timeless and globally relevant. "He focused on values such as freedom, human dignity, human rights, and active engagement in striving for change rather than passivity," she told reporters. She also highlighted Havel's belief that decency is a strength, not a weakness, as a principle that continues to resonate today.
