ÚZIS: Summer coronavirus wave expected to culminate soon
The ongoing summer wave of coronavirus cases is nearing a culmination point which should occur within a week or 10 days, the director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic (ÚZIS), Ladislav Dušek, told Czech Radio on Thursday. The decrease in cases will be gradual and case numbers could continue to rise after the culmination point is reached, he said.
According to Jan Konvalinka from the Institute of Water and Environmental Technology, the current viral load present in the population is the largest seen yet. However, this is tempered thanks to a substantial level of the population being vaccinated as well as thanks to the factor of herd immunity.
Covid tests have detected on average around 2,000 cases a day over the past three days.
