Unique exhibition of monumental glass installations on display at Prague’s Botanical Garden
A unique exhibition called Crystal Garden is currently underway at the Prague Botanical garden in Trója. The special showcase features glass flowers and animals crafted by renowned Czech glassmaker Jiří Pačinek and his team. Visitors can admire the stunning glass structures until February 2, 2025.
Some light installations include interactive features, and visitors can also enjoy scheduled audio-visual shows. One standout installation is made from uranium-dyed glass, which glows under UV light. Jiří Pačinek, the artist behind the exhibition, says:
“Uranium-dyed glass gets a unique colour. The name may suggest a danger of radiation, but I would add that it is a perfectly safe material that I have been working with for several decades. Its exceptional property is its ability to reflect UV rays and therefore appears to the viewer's eye as glowing.”
During the day, sunlight highlights the intricate details of the glass pieces, while in the evening, the artworks come alive with lights, shadows, and atmospheric music.
The exhibition also includes seasonal touches, such as the tallest illuminated tree in the garden and a crystal nativity scene, adding to the festive atmosphere.
