Unions want public sector pay rise this year in view of inflation

Czech trade unions are pushing for an increase in public sector salaries this year in view of the high level of inflation, the Czech News Agency reported. Workers’ leaders are seeking talks on the matter with the leaders of the governing coalition, it said.

Representative Pavel Bednář did not at present wish to say the size of the pay rise the unions wanted.

The Medical Union said at the start of this month that it was demanding a 5 percent increase during 2023.

The government is committed to making massive fiscal savings this year and the minister of labour recently said that he did not see much room for public service salary increases.

Czechia had 15 percent inflation in March, the lowest level in nearly a year.
