Unemployment in March: slight decrease

Unemployment in the Czech Republic decreased in March to 9.1 percent from 9.3 percent in February. In March 2001, the unemployment rate stood at 8.7 percent. According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, there are now 471,000 jobless people in the country.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, there are now 471,000 jobless people in the country. The lowest unemployment remains in Prague and the surrounding regions - around 3 percent. The highest number of unemployed people is in the Northern Bohemian and North Moravian coal-mining and heavy industry regions, with the absolutely highest rate in Most - almost 22 percent.
