Ukraine’s armed forces to form core of future security guarantees, says NATO

Ukraine’s armed forces will form the foundation of future security guarantees for the country, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said on Thursday. Speaking after a video conference with the coalition of nations supporting Ukraine, Rutte emphasized the need for robust measures to deter further Russian aggression. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala added that the group agrees on continuing aid to Ukraine and maintaining pressure on Russia.

The discussions, held in Paris at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, aim to outline security guarantees ahead of any peace negotiations. Leaders including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen joined the talks. Rutte participated remotely from Prague, where he was attending a defense conference, ensuring Ukraine can count on unified support from its allies.
