Two-day sewing workshop helps Afghan women in Czechia integrate and build new careers

Afghan women, wives of former interpreters for the Czech Army, are participating in a two-day sewing workshop aimed at helping them integrate into Czech society while making clothes for veterans. The EasyShorts initiative, organized by the Red Poppies Association, teaches practical skills and provides sewing machines and fabric for continued work at home.

These women arrived in Czechia in June 2021, when the government evacuated Afghan interpreters and their families to protect them from Taliban threats, after years of collaboration during NATO missions.

Since the Taliban regained control in 2021, Afghan women have faced severe restrictions, including bans on education, employment, and public freedoms. The Red Poppies project gives them an opportunity to rebuild their lives in safety and contribute to their new community.
