Turnout 60 percent for 13 municipal elections

Average turnout at elections held in 13 municipalities in the Czech Republic on Saturday was over 60 percent. The highest participation, more than 85 percent, was seen in the village of Slunečná in the Česká Lípa area, north Bohemia; the lowest, 27 percent, was in Vysoká Lhota in Pelhřimov. The Czech News Agency said the voting provided an opportunity for the Czech Statistics Office to test its readiness for general elections in three weeks’ time.

The municipal elections were necessitated by the collapse of the local authorities in those areas, most frequently due to discord among representatives.
