Transparency International CR slams Czech government for failing to address corruption
The Czech branch of Transparency International has slammed the Czech government, primarily Prime Minister Petr Fiala and his Civic Democratic Party, for failing to take effective action against corruption. In a statement on its website, the watchdog organization accuses Justice Minister Pavel Blažek (Civic Democratic Party) of undermining democratic institutions and claims the government weakens anti-corruption laws for private interests. Transparency warns that the Civic Democrats have no real interest in effective law enforcement against corruption and are only formally fulfilling the European Commission's requirements. It says this attitude could seriously damage public trust in state institutions and Czechia's reputation abroad.
