Tourist figures plummet in second quarter

Tourist figures in the second quarter have plummeted, with the Czech capital registering a drop of 96 percent in the number of accommodated foreign visitors, according to data released by the Czech Statistics Office on Friday. The number of domestic visitors to Prague dropped by two thirds.

In the second quarter of this year, 988,000 people used the services of accommodation facilities in the Czech Republic, a year-on-year decrease of 82.9 percent. Accommodation establishments also recorded fewer nights spent by foreign and Czech guests. Foreigners spent 96.2 percent fewer nights in hotels or boarding houses than a year earlier, and Czechs spent almost 67 percent less.

The fall is due to restrictions stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.
