Tough new measures in force to fight spread of Covid-19

New measures take effect across the Czech Republic on Wednesday in response to the acceleration of the coronavirus epidemic.

All bars, clubs and restaurants are closed until November 3. Schools have been ordered to close and reintroduce distance learning until November 1, with the exception of kindergartens, and Czech students have been asked to leave university campuses to prevent the further spread of the virus.

The obligation to wear face masks in enclosed spaces has been extended to all public transport stops. No more than six people can gather indoors and out and there is a ban on drinking alcohol in public spaces.

The stricter measures, introduced within a 30-day state of emergency, will be revised in a fortnight’s time.
