Three Czech women make third round at Australian Open
Czech players Karolína Plíšková, Linda Fruhvirtová and Markéta Vondroušová have advanced to the third round of tennis’s Australian Open in Melbourne. Plíšková, who is seeded 30th, overcame Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 6-0 7-5 on Thursday.
Fruhvirtová, who is 17, beat Australia’s Kimberly Birrell 6-3 6-2 for her best ever placing at a Grand Slam tournament.
Vondroušová overcame world number two Ons Jabeur of Tunisia 6-1 3-6 6-2.
Czech pair Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková had a successful start to the defence of their doubles title, beating the Norwegian-American duo of Ulrikke Eikeri and Catherine Harrison 6-2 3-6 6-2.
