Thousands still without power after severe storms

About 3,500 households in Czechia remain without electricity after powerful storms swept through parts of the country on Wednesday and Thursday. The hardest-hit areas are Central Bohemia, followed by the Moravian-Silesian and Zlín regions. Most outages are expected to be fixed today, according to power company spokespeople.

Thursday’s storms brought severe weather to Moravia and Silesia, including hailstones up to 7 cm wide and wind gusts reaching around 100 km/h. Strong winds also caused significant damage.

Today, isolated strong storms may occur from western through central to eastern Bohemia, but they are expected to be few and less intense. The situation may escalate again on Saturday, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has warned.
