Thousands join rally “against fear” on Wenceslas Square
Thousands of Czechs joined a demonstration in support of democracy and Western values on Prague's Wenceslas Square on Sunday afternoon. The rally held under the motto “Czech Republic Against Fear: Together on Wenceslas Square” was called by the civic association Million Movements for Democracy . In a video address, Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelensky thanked the Czech Republic for its support.
The demonstration took place two days after an anti-government protest in which tens of thousands called for the demise of the Fiala government, blaming it for the energy crisis and soaring inflation. Protesters accused the government of helping Ukraine at the expense of its own citizens and called for a turn in the country’s foreign policy.
