Thousands of homes without power as gale force winds batter Czechia

Over 3,500 thousand homes were without power on Monday after gale-force winds battered the Czech Republic for a second night.

Strong winds, toppled trees and power outages plagued the country throughout the weekend, causing considerable material damage and taking one life in a freak accident.

A man who narrowly escaped being hit by a fallen tree got out of his car to investigate and was killed by another tree which fell seconds later.
