Tenfold increase in number of migrants apprehended in south Moravia

The number of migrants apprehended by police in the South Moravian Region is almost tenfold what it was at the beginning of the year, the Czech News Agency reports, citing information from the website of the Czech police. The police detained 35 migrants in January, while in September they have so far apprehended 292. The police have responded to the increase in migration by increasing random checks near the border, spokesman David Chaloupka said.

However, the number of detained refugees is still significantly lower than last autumn, when temporary border controls were introduced to deal with the wave of more than 100 migrants a day.
