Table tennis association seeks compensation over Tokyo Covid infection

The Czech Table Tennis Association says it will seek compensation from the country’s Olympic Committee after a player contracted Covid-19 in Tokyo. The association said that by the end of August it would calculate the damage caused to Pavel Širuček when he, like others, tested positive after taking a special plane organised by the Czech Olympic Committee.

Širuček was unable to take part himself while his infection also impacted other athletes, who were identified as his close contacts.

The association said failure to compete had affected Širuček’s ability to attract sponsorship.

The country’s Volleyball Union is also seeking compensation over the flight.
