Swimming centre in Podolí declared national cultural monument
The swimming centre in Prague's Podolí has been declared a national cultural monument by the Czech Ministry of Culture.
The swimming centre, designed by architect Richard Ferdinand Podzemný, was built on the site of a former cement plant and has been operating for more than 55 years.
At the time of its opening in the 1960s, it housed one of the first indoor 50-meter swimming pools in Czechoslovakia.
It is unique with its special roof in the shape of a large wave.
The complex also has an outdoor grandstand and can accommodate up to 5,000 spectators.
