Supporters of death penalty again outweigh opponents, survey shows

Supporters of the death penalty in Czechia again outweigh its opponents, with 52% of people over 15 years old agreeing with it, according to a survey by the Centre for Public Opinion Research (CVVM). The survey was conducted in late May and early June, and the results were published on the CVVM website on Wednesday.

The death penalty was abolished in Czechoslovakia in 1990 after the fall of communism. In this year’s survey, 17% are definitely against it, while 28% disagree less strongly. "Regarding age, older respondents were more likely to support the death penalty than younger respondents," the CVVM reported. The survey also showed that people with tertiary education have a more negative attitude towards the death penalty, compared with people without higher education.
