Study reveals pandemic has increased regional inequalities in mortality

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated regional disparities in mortality rates. The regions most affected by mortality, particularly north-western Bohemia and eastern Moravia, were the same as those before the pandemic.

In contrast, major cities like Prague and Brno experienced the least impact. This finding comes from research conducted by scientists at the SYRI National Institute, which has been published in the scientific journal Applied Geography. According to the researchers, factors such as population structure and the level of acceptance or rejection of preventive health measures, particularly vaccination, are key contributors.
