State honours ceremony set for March 7 (TG Masaryk’s birthday)

Czech state honours, normally presented at Prague Castle by the head of state on the traditional October 28 Independence Day holiday, will be awarded on March 7, the anniversary of Czechoslovakia’s first president, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.

The ceremony had been twice postponed – first, due to the Covid pandemic, it was pushed back to New Year’s Day, and then indefinitely after President Miloš Zeman tested positive for the virus shortly after being released from a month-long hospital stay.

The 2020 ceremony did not take place at all due to the Covid situation, so laureates from that year and 2021 will be presented with medals and orders together at the March 7 ceremony.
