Sports unions ostracizing Russian teams over invasion
The Executive Committee of the Football Association of the Czech Republic said on Sunday that the Czech national team will not play Russia in pivotal FIFA World Cup playoff qualifiers in March because of the country's invasion of Ukraine. The announcement comes in the wake of similar decisions taken by Poland and Sweden.
The president of the Czech Hockey Association, Tomáš Král, has issued a similar statement. He said the Russians will not be invited to the Euro Hockey Tour games on Czech territory which are to take place at the turn of April and May.
