Sparta captain Tomas Repka saw red at the weekend in a match against Teplice which will remain in the headlines for some time. Sparta lost 2:1 but in the final minutes of the game the team captain explosively lost his temper and was sent off, bad-mouthing organisers as well as assaulting a Czech TV cameraman on the way. The public broadcaster has indicated it will take legal action against the player, even threatening to yank its broadcasting of first division games unless it receives an apology from the Sparta football club. The Czech FA's disciplinary commission will also look into the matter.

Tomas Repka - famous for a short temper - was not the only one involved in the incident: also involved were midfielders Matusovic as well as Abraham, who was also given a red card and had to be dragged off the field by fellow players. The defeat by Teplice at the weekend was Sparta's first loss this season.

The bottom end of the standings is rounded-out by Most and last place Liberec. Neither team has won a game this season yet.

International football: Nedved's Juventus slip to second place in Serie A

Star Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved, who places for Juventus Turin in Italy's Serie A, faced fellow Czech Tomas Zapotocny of Udine in weekend competition. The two clashed several times on the field but it was Udine who got the unexpected 1:0 win, knocking Juventus into second place in league standings. Nedved had a chance to score but overshot the Udine goal. His team mate Del Piero was no luckier: hitting the posts and crossbar. AC Roma now lead the top flite division.

In other matches, Litvinov suffered a 4:2 loss to Sparta after a goal that would have tied the game 3:3 was disallowed due to the net being knocked of its moorings. Other results included Slavia beating Usti nad Labem 2:1 and Karlovy Vary edging Trinec 1:0 on penalties.

Motorcycle racing: Pesek 13th in Estoril

Fans of Czech 125 cc motorcycle racer Lukas Pesek suffered disappointment after the rider came 13th in Estoril, Portugal, severely weakening his chances of finishing in third place in the World Championship. Pesek started in 2nd place in the race but lost ground, holding onto 9th place in to the final laps, before slipping even further. He remains in fourth place in the overall standings, 22 points behind Kojamu.
