Kvitová defeated in WTA Finals after forcing deciding set
The Czech women’s number one Petra Kvitová was defeated in the WTA Finals for 2015 in Singapore on Sunday by Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska. Kvitová showed some of the form that allowed her to knock out Maria Sharapova a day earlier, but had to fight back against Radwanska after losing the first set. Although she tied the match at a set apiece, both her serve and returns let her down at key moments and she was unable to hang on in the decider. The final score was 2:6, 6:4, 3:6.Kvitová had advanced to the semi-finals despite losing the first two matches of the qualifier thanks to her fellow Czech Lucie Šafářová, who beat Germany’s Angelique Kerber in the last group game. In an interview for the WTA website, the Czech number one said she was happy with her overall performance in the tournament:
“I think it was a great final for both of us. We really fought hard for the title and I think in the end of the match she was a just a little bit better player on the court. I didn’t take my chances which I had in the match. Unfortunately I lost but I think it was a good tournament for me. It was an amazing week. I couldn’t believe I could play the semi-finals, I played the final. I am really happy with the way I played today.”
Czech women’s tennis team getting ready for Fed Cup finals
