Although Czech tennis fans could only lament the first week at Wimbledon, during which all Czech players went out, they could find solace in the tournament's conclusion, when 46 year-old Czech-born US player Martina Navratilova proved she was still a winner, securing her 20th title at the All England Club on Sunday. Navratilova won in mixed doubles with partner Leander Pass, downing Andy Ram of Israel and Anastassia Rodionova of Russia 6-3, 6-3. The victory saw Martina Navratilova become the oldest player to ever win at Wimbledon. Her victory also means she ties Billie Jean King for most Wimbledon titles overall. Navratilova holds nine singles titles at the All England Club, seven doubles, and four mixed.

Still no word on Hasek

There is still no word on star hockey-goaltender Dominik Hasek returning to the game after the Detroit Red Wings exercised their option on the goalie last week. But, insiders believe the news will come later today. At the moment it remains unclear whether the club would then trade current starter Curtis Joseph, who joined the Wings from Toronto after Hasek's retirement. Hasek, the famous number 39, played just one season with the Detroit Red Wings leading the Wings to secure the prestigious Stanley Cup. But, many fans in Motor City, were disappointed by his retirement coming so soon on the heels of his achievement.

Hockey forward Jiri Dopita also considering return

Dominik Hasek is not the only Czech player weighing a possible return to the NHL; another is giant centre- forward Jiri Dopita, who has indicated to his agent Petr Svoboda he'd like another chance in the big leagues. The 34-year-old Olympic gold medal winner recently underwent a knee operation in the Czech Republic and will now train with Olomouc, but indicated he would see what his agent had to offer. The 6'4, 210 pound player is currently signed with the Edmonton Oilers. Before that he played one season with Philadelphia. It was originally expected that Dopita, a key player in the Czech league and for the Czech national team, would set a higher mark in the NHL; perhaps now he will get a final chance.

Speculation ends over Rosicky trade

Speculation over a possible trade of star Czech footballer Tomas Rosicky to either a Spanish or Italian side has been dashed after his team Borussia Dortmund extended the mid-fielder's contract to 2008. Barcelona had expressed interest in the talented player, as well as AC Milan. Rosicky, who helped lead Dortmund to the Bundesliga title last year, will now receive a higher salary, though his agent declined to discuss the details. Originally, Rosicky's agent viewed the mid-fielder's signing with Borussia as a stop-over on the way to a European 'superclub'; now he indicates the football market has changed, saying that Rosicky's place at Borussia was financially secure. He also stressed the club's ambition at winning a European title was an obvious plus for Rosicky to remain.

Fifteen thousand fans gathered at Prague's Stvanice stadium over the weekend to see a lot of gnarly moves, grinding, curbs, and a whole lot of gyrating going on. That's right, the sport was skateboarding, and if three metre high jumps above the ramp are your thing Prague was the place to be. Competing visitors included stars like Lincoln Ueda, Fabrizio Santos, and Chris Pfanner. Two Czechs, Tomas Vintr and Ales Bubla, made it into the semi-final of the street style event, in which skaters show their stuff jumping wooden barriers. In the end though street style, best tricks and vertical ramp were dominated by US, Brazilian, and British skaters.
