In motor racing, 19-year old Czech Jaroslav Janis has become a test driver for the formula 1 Jordan team for the year 2003. Janis, currently a formula 3000 driver, is the second Czech, after Tomas Enge, to sit in the cockpit of a formula one car. "It's a great honour for me, I still can't believe it," a happy Janis told journalists. However, he won't appear on a F1 racing ring before the formula 3000 season is over this autumn.

Football - Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved helped his team Juventus to overwhelm Champions League title holders Real Madrid 3-1. Nedved made it 3-0 in the 73rd minute and secured Juventus a place in the finals. Although Nedved has been the heart and soul of Juventus' march to the Champions League final, he will be sitting in the stands for the match against AC Milan on May 28. Nedved went into the second leg of the semi-final against Real Madrid on a yellow card and after an unnecessary foul on Steve McManaman eight minutes from the end of the game, he was booked and will be suspended for the final. "I'm so disappointed," the Czech international said. "I won't play in the final and I'm so sad I could die." The whole Juve team echoed his emotions, and as coach Marcello Lippi said, he and the team were very saddened that such an unselfish player as Nedved, who has had such a great Champions League campaign, will miss the final match.

Tennis - Czechs have had rather bad luck over the past few days. At the Rome Masters, Klara Koukalova was defeated by top seed Serena Williams 6-4 6-3 on Tuesday.

Czech men were not doing any better - in the first round of the Hamburg Masters Series ATP tournament on Tuesday, Mikhail Youzhny of Russia beat 6th-seed Czech Jiri Novak 6-1 6-4, and his colleague Radek Stepanek lost to 14th-seed Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-4 6-3.
