Yes, it's the sport of course and there was some relief for the coach of Teplice football club, Petr Rada on Wednesday evening as his team recorded an impressive 2-0 home win over Slavia Prague. Pavel Verbir opened the scoring for the north Bohemian club in the 25th minute before Michal Dolezal secured the points with the second two minutes from time. The result lifts Teplice back up to 4th in the Gambrinus League.
There had been intensive speculation prior to the game that the Slavia match was Rada's last chance to prove himself. Rada's tactics and the manner of the team's recent performances have come under heavy criticism recently, particularly after Teplice crashed 2-1 at home to lowly Viktoria Zizkov at the weekend. And the pressure upon him showed - at Saturday's post-match press conference, he admitted to having taken sedatives before and after the game.
Unconfirmed reports say that Rada has been issued with an ultimatum by the board of directors - claim four points from the next two games, or else! Teplice now travel to Jablonec at the weekend.
Staying with football and the manager of the Prague team Bohemians Ludek Klusacek is set to appear for the second time in front of the Czech Football Association's disciplinary committee on Thursday. Klusacek will be expected to finally explain his recent allegations of corruption at every level of Czech football. There is speculation that the Head of the Czech FA, Frantisek Chvalovsky, will also be hauled in front of the committee in the near future to explain his activities in the wake of the fraud charges being filed against him. Chvalovsky is presently in Switzerland but is expected to return to Prague on Friday.
Finally to tennis and there were a couple of disappointing results for Czech players on Wednesday. At the $350,000 Delray Beach tournament in Florida, the number one seed Patrick Rafter proved too strong for Jiri Vanek - the Czech going down 6-3 7-6 to the Australian. And Denisa Chladkova is out of the $2 million Masters Series in Indian Wells, California - she went down in straight sets to the Austrian Sylvia Plischke.
