SPOLU leader Fiala: I will begin negotiations with Pirates and Mayors

Petr Fiala, leader of the SPOLU coalition which won the weekend parliamentary elections by a razor-thin margin, said that SPOLU, together with the Pirates and Mayors coalition, together have a chance to form a majority government.

SPOLU is comprised of the Civic Democrats, of which Fiala is chariman, and two other paries, the Christian Democrats and TOP 09. Together, SPOLU and the Pirates and Mayors will hold 108 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, based on the election results .

However, President Miloš Zeman said before the elections that he would ask the leader of the strongest party to form a government, which is Prime Minister Andrej Babiš’s ANO movement.

Mr Fiala said that the president cannot ignore the fact that the coalitions won a majority of the vote.
