Spanish newspaper Marca lists cyclist Jiří Ježek among 100 greatest sportsmen of the century
Former cyclist Jiří Ježek is the only Czech to be listed among Spanish sports newspaper Marca’s list of the 100 greatest sportsmen of the 21st century. The six time Paralympics and world champion placed 73rd in the ranking.
Jiří Ježek, who is 45, ended his career three years ago. He is described as the greatest Paralympic cyclist in history due to his all-round qualities, by the paper.
Britain’s Chris Froome came in highest on the list among cyclists, placing 17. Meanwhile, Tom Boonen and Mark Cavendish made the top 100, but placed behind Ježek.
Marca’s top three sportsmen are occupied by swimmer Michael Phelps, runner Usain Bolt and Swiss tennis player Roger Federer.
