Škoda boss: We will not be able to produce 100,000 cars this year due to chip shortage

Car manufacturer Škoda Auto will not be able to produce 100,000 vehicles due to the ongoing global chip shortage, Škoda CEO Thomas Schäfer told German newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine, the Czech News Agency reports.

The lack of chips is also particularly painful for Škoda, because demand for the manufacturer's cars continues to be high, Schäfer reportedly said. The CEO of the Volkswagen owned Czech car brand said that he expects the shortage to continue into next year, but hopes that its severity will be reduced in part thanks to rising production in Malaysia.

Škoda Auto produced 940,000 cars in 2020. During the first eight months of this year, the manufacturer has managed to produce 644,200 vehicles.
