Significant increase in cyberattacks

The Czech police recorded 15,409 cybercrimes this year in the period from January to the end of October, a significant increase from previous years. As a point of comparison, there were only 9,518 in the whole of 2021 and 2,195 a decade ago. According to data from the Czech Banking Association, an average of CZK 161,500 is incurred per cyberattack victim.

Deputy Police Chief Tomáš Kubík told journalists on Wednesday that the sophistication of these attacks is also growing considerably. The Czech police have warned people to be especially on their guard in the run-up to Christmas, as the activity of cybercriminals is likely to intensify during this period.
