Several major breweries considering layoffs after losses in revenue due to pandemic
A third of Czech breweries, mainly large producers, are considering laying off some of their staff, according to the Czech Association of Breweries and Malthouses. The largest beer producers lost between 20 to 40 percent of their revenue this year, with micro-breweries losing more than 50 percent.
The association’s director, Martina Ferencová, told the Czech News Agency that draft beer sales fell by 20 percent from January to October 2020 and that a 30 percent fall is expected by the end of the year. She said sales of bottled and canned beer are up, but not by enough to offset losses.
